How to Drink 1

At lunchtime I saw the most beautifully designed book – How To Drink by Victoria Moore. I’m sure the actual content is great but I was captivated by the typographic illustrations – amazing!

How to Drink 2

Turns out the designs were created by Here Design so I went to have a little look at their website and guess what else they have in their portfolio… Nigella’s Christmas, which I previously blogged about to say how fabulous I think it looks.

They have some other really beautiful stuff on their site like their branding and packaging for Gail’s Bakery – so all that remains to be said is… can I have a job please?!

Max Huber

I just got this book out of the library and am finding it to be an endless source of inspiration. I think I’ll be buying a copy for myself.

I was prompted to post about it after reading this article about another great Swiss graphic designer, Josef Muller Brockmann, on Papercut Panic’s blog.

Endless amounts of inspiration to be had here. These are my 2 favourites.

Queen Nigella

Nigella Christmas

Ok, I know Christmas is long gone but one of my favourite presents was the Nigella Christmas cook book.

The layout was beautiful and the food photography stunning.

I have now decided that my dream design project would be to be art direct a Nigella Lawson cookbook! What about one on summer picnic food? Lots of gingham prints, outdoor shots of picnic blankets and hampers laden with Nigella’s finest…

Now I’m confused – is it the prospect of the design or the prospect of the food that’s got me so excited?

Edinburgh College of Art Degree Show 2008 Illustration

I really look forward to the ECA Degree show each year, in particularly the illustration as I’m always left in awe of how talented many of them are. Here are my favourites from this year’s show.

This book sculpture was created by Lucy Roscoe. It’s so intricate – I can’t even begin to imagine how long it must have taken to create. Really gorgeous stuff.

I also badly wanted to buy this Lovebird print of Lucy’s but unfortunately it’s not pay day until next week.

Sophie Elm’s show was centred around her “Impossibly perfect garden party”. She works under the pseudonym of Jeff Josephine Designs and has an array of gorgeous illustrated items on her site available to buy. The symmetry of her designs is illustrations.

Emily Sutton created a collection of fabric songbird’s which are absolutely beautiful.
